Barekendan was the top story around the Armenian blogosphere. As I reported earlier the event was initiated by civil society activists as a “call upon their fellow dormant citizens to “wake up” and become involved”, which was clearly a success.

Onnik, thanks for the article. Interesting. I like the look on coppers' faces. Are they some kind of special force within the police?

Isabella, thanks for the comment. I personally didn't take part (since I'm not in RA), but I had info that a minimum of 4 members from one of the Yerevan cells of our movement were going to attend and bring others along. I'm still waiting for their comments and reflections about Barekendan for publishing on this website.

For your interest, I wrote an article on the Rock Festival staged in Yerevan in 2005 for Eurasianet.

Marieke Kitzen, a Dutch volunteer working with the Bem Youth Progressive Action Center, a local NGO that considers the development of youth culture key to involving young Armenians in the country’s socio-political life, agrees. "I thought the rock concert was a great success, although at the beginning, when there were more police than spectators, I had my doubts if rock in Armenia would ever work," Kitzen said.
